Flame within

When the menorah is lit, it is not supposed to be used for any other purpose except contemplation and closeness the God. Reading to the light or using it to light the room is not permitted. In fact, the song sung after lighting the menorah, "These Lights", says exactly that.

So, after lighting the candles, take this time to contemplate. Find the flame within and then realize your connection to the collective Jewish family.
